Optimized Operations (O2)

What is the Optimized Operations Experience?

The Optimized Operations Experience (O2) is a manufacturing and supply chain development program that provides recent Engineering, Supply Chain, Environmental, Health and Safety graduates the opportunity to jump-start their careers. You’ll work on challenging assignments and have rotational experiences geared toward inspiring you to be an improvement-driven, socially cognizant and globally aware professional.

  • Year 1

    You will attend several weeks of advanced training, focused on continuous improvement, including:
     

    • Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belt training 
      • You are expected to be certified during your first 12 months
    • Statistics 
    • Project management
    • Lean problem solving 
    • Applied learning 

    You will lead a minimum of two high impact LSS Green Belt projects. Examples include:
     

    • Productivity, process control and quality improvements
    • Changeover, cycle time, and waste reduction
    • Scheduling and inventory optimization
    • Ergonomic, environmental and safety improvements
    • Sustainability improvements

    You will lead a one to two-week social responsibility project, utilizing your skills to positively impact your community.

    You will be assigned to a manufacturing or corporate location domestically.

  • Building on the core competencies developed in year one, you will take part in a career development workshop designed to accelerate your performance.

    Your assignment could be located at a domestic or international 3M site.

  • As a graduate of the O2 program, you will have experienced different technical roles, have a strong foundation, be an impactful contributor and be developmentally advanced.

    At the end of the program, you will transition into a role where you will continue to build your leadership skills and make an impact.


  • Where will you be located?

    For your first year, you will be placed within a domestic manufacturing or corporate location. During the second year, you could be assigned to an international location. For the international assignments, you could be located at any international 3M site.

  • When does the program start?

    We’re always looking for O2 talent throughout the year, aiming to find candidates who will start the O2 program following graduation.

  • Who can be a part of the program?

    • Graduates (of any age) within three years of graduation or future graduates who are completing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Supply Chain, Engineering, Environmental, Health and Safety, or equivalent
    • Internship, co-op, and/or relevant work experience is required
    • Willing to relocate within the in the first 24-36 months of employment
